The 2017 Financial Literacy Awards Luncheon recognized financial literacy partnerships and three Clients of the Year. Event sponsorships, ticket sales and donations raised over $42,000 to support our housing, credit improvement, money management and financial capabilities programs. Prior to the awards luncheon, Logan Bolick, CFA, Financial Analyst with Altavista,  presented a morning seminar “Trumponomics.”

Community Action Opportunties2017 Award Winners (details):

  • Financial Literacy Community Partner Award:  Life Works of Community Action Opportunities was recognized for sharing our enthusiasm for developing the Financial Capabilities of the people it serves, investing in comprehensive staff training, and maintaining open and collaborative communication to inform program evolution.


The 2017 Credit Where Credit Is Due Award winners have made significant investments in our mission and have made it possible for us to launch OnTrack WNC’s Keystone Society which is open to businesses, organizations and individuals that make significant, multi-year, undesignated financial commitments.

Starks Financial Group

  • Starks Financial Group invests charitable dollars with intentionality and passion. They feel it is especially important to support organizations like OnTrack WNC who share their mission of financial education. SFG has been a long-time major donor and made a multi-year leadership commitment to launch OnTrack WNC’s Keystone Society.


Parsec Financial

  • Parsec Financial awarded OnTrack WNC Financial Education & Counseling with a Parsec Prize for 2017 of $100,000 to be given over the next four years. Parsec Financial highly values financial education and this Prize, the largest ever made to one organization, will make a long-lasting impact towards building financial literacy in the community.


Jack Laughlin

  • Volunteer of the Year: Jack Laughlin has been volunteering with our Volunteer Income Tax Preparation (VITA) site since 2012. Over those five years, Jack has given 1331 hours and averaged 90 returns filed per tax season; in 2016 he worked an amazing 332.25 hours with our VITA program - 86.5 hours in the month of March alone!



2017 Clients of the Year all learned money management skills, improved their credit and built emergency savings through the SECURE matched-savings program. They inspired us with compelling stories of personal challenge and determination as they worked with OnTrack WNC’s education classes and through individual appointments.
