Save the Date: Please join us at 9:00 am on Thursday, August 12, for the Women's Financial Empowerment Center grand opening and ribbon cutting at OnTrack's main office located at the United Way Building - 50 South French Broad Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
OnTrack is proud to announce the opening of our Women's Financial Empowerment Center. By recognizing and addressing women’s unique needs and perspectives around money and credit the Women's Financial Empowerment Center will become WNC’s preeminent source for women’s financial empowerment, providing women with knowledge, skills, and support to take charge of their finances.
"OnTrack believes that financially knowledgeable women make better decisions for themselves and their families, increasing their economic security and well being. We are truly grateful to the Women-for-Women Fund of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina for sharing this vision and providing 2-year grant funding to support the initiative," commented Celeste Collins, OnTrack Executive Director. Collins continued, "This Center will provide a women-centered approach, responding to women's unique needs and perspectives, to help them reach their financial goals."
Women's Financial Empowerment Center Offerings
This fall, the Women's Financial Empowerment Center will offer an innovative Money Buddy Series and several Women-Centered Education Classes. Other services will be offered within the first six months of the Center's opening.
Money Buddy Series: We know that most women really love connections and relationships, so the Money Buddy Series encourages women to capitalize on personal connections to strengthen money management skills! The Money Buddy series invites women to “bring a friend” for support and encouragement as they embark on their money mission. In the 6-session series, participants set personal goals and the classes provide the information, tools, and support to reach them! Money Buddies support one another with mutual motivation and accountability.
Educational seminars: The Women's Financial Empowerment Center will utilize curricula specifically designed for women in Women-Only classes focusing on topics such as budgeting, saving, credit, and housing.
One-on-one financial counseling: Realizing women's unique needs and communication dynamics, the Women's Financial Empowerment Center's financial counseling will provide our full-range of financial counseling services, while emphasizing goal setting and individual action plans.
Webinars: We will use the power of technology to provide financial education to rural areas of WNC, making it possible for women who cannot participate in our programs in person to do so online. This service will put solid, empowering financial information at women's fingertips at the touch of a keyboard.
OnTrack Website in Spanish! In Spring 2011, OnTrack will launch our Spanish website, making our information available to Latina women who find navigating the U.S. financial system particularly bewildering due to language and cultural barriers.
Ending Overspending! Therapeutic Group for Spending Addictions: This therapeutic group for women struggling with spending addictions will help women understand the underlying issues and develop skills to master their financial lives. The 12-part group is led by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker - Carolyn McCarter Wood OnTrack Educator/Counselor.
Meet Melissa Clack - Women's Financial Empowerment Center Coordinator
Melissa's skills at working with people both one-on-one (having worked in human resources) and in group settings (having taught adult learners) will enable her to bring together both the counseling and education components of the Center. She is a practiced listener; formerly, she coordinated Employee Assistance Programs and met with individuals to connect them with resources and services. As a bilingual speaker, Melissa will reach out to the Latina community. Her enthusiasm for the program along with her creativity and problem solving skills will launch the Center and drive the success of the program.
More information regarding the women's Financial Empowerment Center's services will be available after the ribbon cutting on August 12. Please check our website for our Women's Financial Empowerment Center page for more information after August 12th.
