The Opportunity:


OnTrack WNC is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as its next Executive Director. This is an extraordinary opportunity to lead a respected organization with a 50-year history of providing free financial, credit, and housing counseling services to Western North Carolina. With a dedicated team, an experienced board, and a strong reputation for innovation and community responsiveness, the Executive Director will oversee all aspects of OnTrack WNC’s mission, culture, programs, and financial stability.

The Executive Director will work closely with the Board to craft and execute a strategic vision that ensures the organization continues to evolve, innovate, and expand its impact in response to community needs. This role requires a leader who is deeply committed to inclusivity, equity, and fostering meaningful community relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership & Vision:
    • Provide strategic, transparent, and inclusive leadership to drive the mission and vision of OnTrack WNC.
    • Collaborate with the Board and Staff to develop and implement innovative strategic plans.
    • Promote a culture of creativity, accountability, and equity across the organization.
  2. Operational Excellence:
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of OnTrack WNC, including program management, staff development, and financial performance.
    • Lead the Executive Leadership Team, including the Program Director and Finance Director.
  3. Community Engagement & Advocacy:
    • Serve as the public face of OnTrack WNC, building relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders.
    • Represent the organization in local and regional communities, fostering collaboration and partnerships.
  4. Fundraising & Financial Stewardship:
    • Develop and manage the organization’s budget (>$1M) and funding streams, including grants, individual giving, and government contracts.
    • Cultivate and steward donor relationships, while seeking new opportunities for financial support.

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead with Equity: Have a strong understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and infuse these values across the organization’s programs and operations.
  • Be Visionary & Strategic: Anticipate and respond to community needs with innovation and strategic foresight, ensuring OnTrack WNC’s continued growth and relevance.
  • Foster Relationships: Be an authentic ambassador for OnTrack WNC, with exceptional relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate Financial Acumen: Bring experience managing budgets and diverse funding streams, ensuring the organization’s long-term sustainability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in non-profit leadership or management.
  • Familiarity with HUD guidelines and grant-funded programs.
  • Knowledge of Western North Carolina’s economic, cultural, and philanthropic landscapes.
  • Lived experience in achieving financial stability and/or experience working with marginalized communities.

Compensation & Benefits:
Expected salary range of $85,000 - $100,000 commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
