Position Overview
The Director of Education & Outreach leads the design, continuous improvement, and delivery of OnTrack WNC’s financial education workshops. The primary responsibility of this role is to regularly teach workshops (approximately 25% of the position’s time), evaluate our current workshop materials and delivery, identify improvement opportunities, and strengthen outcomes for community members across Western North Carolina. This position supervises Education & Outreach, Communications, and Client Support staff in a support capacity, ensuring alignment, quality, and strategic consistency across our services and external messaging.
This position represents OnTrack in the community, supports improvement in client flow and experience, and collaborates with the Executive Director, Counseling Director, Grants & Development Manager, and Finance Director to support agency goals and grant deliverables. Regular travel across WNC counties and occasional evening/weekend availability is required.
Key Responsibilities
A. Core Financial Education & Workshop Excellence (Primary Function)
- Teach OnTrack’s monthly financial empowerment workshops (credit, budgeting, savings, debt, homebuying, goal setting).
- Conduct ongoing assessments of workshop effectiveness, clarity, accessibility, and engagement.
- Revise and strengthen workshop curricula and materials using evaluation outcomes and best practice.
- Track attendance, inputs, outputs, and outcomes in agency systems.
- Obtain and maintain HUD/NFCC certifications (with support).
- Serve as a peer resource to support educator skill development.
B. Leadership & Team Support
- Supervise and support staff in:
- Education & Outreach
- Communications
- Client Support
- Provide coaching, performance support, accountability, and professional development.
- Support and ensure effective workload planning and scheduling.
C. Communications Oversight (Support Role)
- Support communications team to ensure messaging alignment and brand consistency.
- Review & approve public-facing materials to ensure accuracy.
- Create content only when necessary to maintain alignment, quality, or meet urgent need.
D. Outreach & Representation
- Develop and implement an outreach strategy to expand reach across WNC counties.
- Represent OnTrack at community events, partner presentations, coalition tables, etc.
- Strengthen partnerships that expand access, especially in rural and underserved counties.
E. Client Services Support
- Support the front desk / client support team to ensure excellent intake, scheduling, and referrals.
- Strengthen cross-department communication regarding client flow.
F. Agency Participation
- Participate in agency meetings and shared initiatives.
- Coordinate use of training room as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years of experience teaching, facilitating, coaching, or delivering curriculum to adults.
- Experience designing, improving, or evaluating educational content.
- Strong communication, teaching, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build community partnerships and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to travel within WNC; ability to work occasional evenings/weekends.
Preferred
- Experience supervising or coaching staff.
- HUD or NFCC certification, or willingness to obtain within first year.
- Familiarity with financial capability/financial empowerment content.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred but not required.
Working Conditions and Environment
This hybrid position is based at OnTrack’s main office, with all staff currently working remotely on Fridays (subject to change). It requires the ability to sit for long periods, use typical office equipment, and occasionally travel for local or regional meetings and events.
Salary range
$63,000 - $65,000 commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
